Homeschooling and taxes

I'm sure this isn't an original idea, but I'm wondering why home schools, which pay the taxes for their local schools but don't use the system, aren't given a tax break on the school supplies they purchase for their micro school? They assist the system by making classrooms a little smaller. They assist society by providing an intensive education to future citizens.

Some states do. But personally, as a homeschooler, I am leery of tax credits. If public education is supposed to be a public good, I don't mind paying a portion of my taxes, same as those who send their kids to private school or who don't even have kids. But more importantly, I don't want the strings which are usually attached to what the government does.
